The Allentown Environmental Advisory Council (AEAC) met on February 23, 2025, to discuss several environmental initiatives and projects.

Key Discussions and Actions:

• Containerization Survey: The council continued refining a draft survey on trash and recycling containerization requirements. The survey aims to gather public sentiment to inform City Council, addressing current rules for indoor/containerized trash storage and exploring public opinion on closed recycling containers to reduce litter. The survey will be available in English and Spanish and will differentiate questions for homeowners, tenants, and landlords.
• Data Center Recommendations: The EAC reviewed its recommendations letter regarding proposed data center regulations, focusing on cumulative environmental impacts like water usage, energy demand, and wastewater capacity. They plan to monitor the matter as it approaches City Council.
• ACPC Reviews: The council reviewed several land development projects, supporting the inclusion of green stormwater infrastructure, energy efficiency, native plantings, active transportation, and bird-friendly design. Specific projects discussed included major apartment developments near America On Wheels Museum and Riverside, with requests for enhanced floodplain mitigation and secure trash containment for properties in floodplains. A storage facility project and a modular classroom addition were also reviewed.
• Social Media: Official EAC social media accounts on Facebook and Instagram have been established to promote surveys, meetings, and environmental initiatives, enhancing transparency and public outreach.
