This motion initiates proceedings to establish a pedestrian mall on the 5600-5900 blocks of Mulholland Highway, east of the Deronda Gate, to enhance public access and safety for Griffith Park. The current vehicular gate at Deronda Drive and Mulholland Highway, though intended for authorized vehicles, is managed under revocable permits held by nearby property owners. The motion directs the Bureau of Engineering, with assistance from the City Attorney and Planning Department, to prepare a Resolution of Intention to establish this pedestrian mall. It also instructs the City Administrative Officer and Bureau of Engineering to identify funding for environmental review, and the Bureau of Engineering to modify or revoke existing permits to limit private vehicular access and allow for separate pedestrian access. Furthermore, the Board of Recreation and Parks is requested to assume responsibility for the existing vehicular gate and install a pedestrian gate within it.

This action aims to improve pedestrian safety and public access to Griffith Park by converting a section of Mulholland Highway into a pedestrian mall, restricting private vehicle access and potentially transferring gate management to the Parks Department.
