The City Council is considering an ordinance to establish a Tourism Public Improvement District (TPID) and approve its associated service plan. This will involve levying a 2% assessment on taxable room-nights sold at qualifying hotels within the district, effective July 1, 2026. The TPID will be managed by the New Braunfels Tourism Public Improvement District Corporation in conjunction with the Greater New Braunfels Chamber of Commerce, Inc. The ordinance also appropriates $320,000 in revenue for the district in FY 2026 and amends the FY 2026 budget to create a new special revenue fund for the TPID. The service plan outlines that 85% of the TPID's projected $11,075,000 over 10 years will be allocated to marketing and sales, 10% to research and administration, and 5% to contingency funds. The City will collect the assessments, which hoteliers are expected to pass on to guests as a fee.
