A Local Law in relation to a pilot program for power washing machines to clean sidewalk surfaces in commercial corridors

This local law establishes a pilot program for the Department of Sanitation (DSNY) to use power washing machines to clean sidewalks in commercial corridors. The program will run for at least 6 months and must commence no later than April 1, 2026. DSNY will consult with the Department of Environmental Protection on location selection. Upon completion, DSNY must submit a report to the Mayor and Speaker of the Council evaluating the program's suitability for expansion, recommending annual cleaning targets, and assessing the impact of pedestrian volume and heat island effects on feasibility.

This pilot program aims to improve the cleanliness and reduce odors and spills on sidewalks in commercial areas. Residents may notice cleaner streets in participating commercial corridors.
