The City Council is considering adopting a resolution to award a grant of up to $843,875.00 from Measure DD bond funds to the Sogorea Te’ Land Trust. This grant will facilitate the acquisition of an approximately 16-acre undeveloped property located at 2 Blachford Court (APN 48D-7268-1-12). The purpose of this acquisition is the permanent conservation and restoration of portions of Sausal Creek, specifically protecting the headwaters of Cobbledick Creek, a tributary to Sausal Creek. This action aligns with the goals of Measure DD, which aims to improve water quality, preserve open space, and restore Oakland's natural resources. The Sogorea Te’ Land Trust, an Indigenous-led nonprofit, will acquire and steward the land in perpetuity, ensuring its natural resources are conserved. The grant covers the anticipated purchase price and associated transaction costs, with a portion also allocated for City staff time.

This measure will permanently protect 16 acres of undeveloped forest and creek habitat within the Sausal Creek watershed, contributing to improved water quality and flood control. Residents will benefit from the preservation of a significant natural area in the Oakland hills.
