Membership, Purpose, and Recruitment Efforts

This report provides an overview of the Human Relations Commission's membership, purpose, and recruitment efforts. The Commission, which advises the Mayor and City Council on issues of discrimination and advocates for equal opportunity, is authorized to have fifteen members. Currently, thirteen seats are filled, with two vacancies in Ward 3 and Ward 7. The Commission's purpose is to promote understanding, respect, and cooperation by eliminating prejudice and discrimination based on various characteristics, fostering an inclusive society. Recruitment efforts are ongoing, utilizing the City's Boards and Commissions application process, with outreach through community organizations, social media, and the City's website to ensure diverse representation. Kristina Gordon was recently appointed as a Citywide Commissioner.
