This motion appoints two new members, Sharon Wai Sum Lai and Cynthia Alvarez, to the Housing Authority of the City and County of San Francisco Board of Commissioners. Sharon Wai Sum Lai is appointed to Seat 6 for a four-year term ending December 16, 2028. She is a nonprofit executive with over two decades of experience in housing and community development, including work with the SF Planning Department and leading affordable housing initiatives, and has lived experience in public housing. Cynthia Alvarez is appointed to Seat 7 for a four-year term ending December 16, 2029. She serves as CEO of an affordable housing nonprofit, with deep expertise in HUD programs and partnerships, and also has lived experience with housing insecurity as an immigrant. Both appointees are San Francisco residents. The appointments were approved by an 11-0 vote of the Board of Supervisors on December 16, 2025. Commissioners receive $50 per meeting, not exceeding four meetings per month.

These appointments bring new leadership and diverse professional and lived experiences to the Housing Authority Commission, which oversees affordable housing programs and policies in San Francisco.
