Introduction of an Ordinance to Uphold the Civil Rights, Dignity, Health and Safety of Our Immigrant Population and all Sonoma County Residents and updates from the Supporting Immigrant Communities Ad Hoc

The Sonoma County Board of Supervisors is considering an ordinance to uphold the civil rights, dignity, health, and safety of its immigrant population and all residents. This ordinance aims to codify current County policies and procedures regarding immigration enforcement, ensuring compliance with state laws like the TRUST Act, TRUTH Act, and VALUES Act. It prohibits the use of County resources, personnel, and property for immigration enforcement activities unless legally mandated. The ordinance also mandates the protection of sensitive personal information, including immigration status, and requires staff training on interactions with federal immigration authorities. The Board will also consider allocating $1,500,000 from General Fund Contingencies to support the work of the Supporting Immigrant Communities Ad Hoc, which focuses on identifying service gaps and developing recommendations for immigrant communities. This funding will support areas such as legal defense, mental health services, and coordination of initiatives. The ordinance is scheduled for final adoption on April 28, 2026.
