Presentation from the Commission on Equity and Public Safety (Devin Stenhouse, Management Analyst II)

The Commission on Equity and Public Safety (CEPS) presented its annual update to the City Council on March 25, 2026. The Commission, established in February 2022, is an advisory body composed of 7 members and 1 alternate, tasked with advising the City Manager and Council on matters of community equity and safety through an equity lens. Its responsibilities include advising on diversity, equity, inclusion, public safety, police-community relations, and data analysis.

In 2025, the Commission held briefings on topics such as the Annual Military Equipment Report, Officer Involved Shootings, and childcare master plans. They also took action to gather community input through a FlashVote survey and interviews at Cultura Fest, learning about appreciation for recreation programs, the impact of city events on belonging, and the need to better understand city communication methods.

For 2026, the Commission has set goals to increase public awareness of its work by fostering relationships with community advocates and to explore potential equity gaps in the city's public communications by reviewing data and analytics. The presentation was delivered by R. Devin Stenhouse, Management Analyst II, who serves as the City Liaison.
