Currently, staff lacks the authority to respond to requests for letters of support or opposition for legislation, making it difficult to ensure advocacy reflects the Council's collective position. Staff recommends creating a Council-adopted Legislative Platform and granting the Mayor authority to sign documents implementing this platform. The primary cost associated with this initiative would be staff time, though external assistance for platform preparation is also an option.
